3D printing is a process by which we make a piece layer by layer, and the various forms of 3D printing differ in how they make each layer. An extrusion-based printing, or fused deposition modeling, uses filaments. It takes a raw material and extrudes it through a die to create a long strand. That’s what a filament is. Filaments are housed in cartridges with big spools of material. The filament is loaded into a machine, gets heated up and then is extruded through a really small die to produce a thin filament. There are many types of 3D printing filament, but mostly a lot of plastics are used in the industry. ABS, a styrene plastic, and PLA, polylactic acid, are common materials. Nylon can also be extruded. Anything that can be melted and forced through a die can be extruded. The vast majority of printers in the industry use plastic when they extrude to make filaments. But there are some weird exceptions. There are printers that extrude food. In that case, the strand of food that comes out of the extruder is the filament. Another weird example of extrusion printing is the 3D printing of homes. Some companies are extruding big strands of concrete to make walls and foundations of ho...

LG G7 ThinQ vs. Google Pixel 2 XL: Can LG Take Out Google?

The LG G7 ThinQ is the latest and greatest smartphone from LG that not only adopts more modern design trends, but also features cutting-edge tech under the hood. Of course, it’s not the only flagship phone out there right now — there’s also the much-loved Google Pixel 2 XL, which is perhaps one of the smartest smartphones to date. But how do the two phones compare? And which one should you go for? We put them head to head to find out. Both the LG G7 ThinQ and the Google Pixel 2 XL are flagship smartphones — but they were released around six months apart, and the result is a slightly different spec-sheet. The Google Pixel 2 XL features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, which is Qualcomm’s flagship chip for 2017, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage. The LG G7 ThinQ on the other hand, steps things up to the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, and pairs it with either 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, or 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Safe to say, with the better chip and the option for more RAM and storage, the LG G7 ThinQ is simply the more powerful device. The battery capacity on these two devices is also pretty different. The G7 ThinQ features a 3,000mAh batt...

This will give the Bronco additional tools and appeal out of the gate as it competes with the JL Jeep Wrangler, its arsenal of official Mopar accessories, and deep aftermarket support. Ford also partnered with Yakima to accessorize the all-new 2020 Ford Explorer three-row SUV at launch. Expect similar Yakima products to be offered on the Ford Bronco that were offered on the Ford Ranger and Explorer, and expect these products to be offered at Ford dealerships nationwide. Some of these conveniences on the Ranger included bike racks, kayak racks, hitch-mounted storage racks, and even a tent. On the 2020 Explorer, Yakima offers roof-mounted bike racks and cargo trays. Windows Defender includes a security feature called “Ransomware Protection” that allows you to enable various protections

Windows Defender includes a security feature called “Ransomware Protection” that allows you to enable various protections against ransomware infections. This feature is disabled by default in Windows 10, but with ransomware running rampant, it is important to enable this feature in order to get the most protection you can for your computer. If you are a regular reader of BleepingComputer, then you have heard about ransomware. For those not familiar with the term, ransomware is a computer malware infection that encrypts the data on your computer and then demands a ransom in bitcoins to decrypt them. Windows 10′s includes a Ransomware Protection feature that is comprised of two components; Controlled Folder Access and Ransomware Data Recovery. Controlled Folder Access will allow you to specify certain folders that you wish to monitor for and block changes to the files contained in them. This will block all programs, but the ones you allow, from making any modifications to the files within monitored folders, which will protect them from being encrypted by ransomware. The other component is Ransomware Data Recovery, which will automatically sync your common data fo...

Fallout from China trade war: Illinois firms say you’ll pay extra for furniture, scooters … and a lot more

With China and the United States embroiled in an all-out trade war, Illinois companies are scrambling to find new overseas suppliers, even as they prepare to pass on the higher costs to their customers. Everything from the mundane to the practical to the exotic — washing machine parts, dining room sets, horsehair waste — is on the growing list of products that, as of Friday, are scheduled to carry a 25 percent tariff to import from China. While Chicago-area companies are looking to source more goods from Vietnam and other countries to avoid the fee, they warn that higher price tags — and, perhaps, a sales slowdown — may be inevitable. Walter E. Smithe, president of the eponymous Itasca-based furniture company started by his grandfather in 1945, said the 25 percent tariffs raise its costs on leather upholstery, bedroom sets and dining room sets, among other furniture. “This will result in more expensive furniture nationwide,” Smithe said. “Furniture is going to be more expensive in the next year.” The tensions over trade began last July, when President Donald Trump imposed 25 percent tariffs on Chinese technological goods and China retaliated with its own tariffs. Since then, th...

Q&A with Dr. Manny: I’ve been thinking about getting laser hair removal for my bikini line, but I’m a little worried about the radiation that’s involved. Is there any kind of link between laser hair removal and cancer? For some women, laser hair removal treatments are worth the big price tag for smooth, hairless skin. The average price for laser hair removal is $289, depending on what areas are being treated and the number of sessions needed. But for others, concerns about the safety of the fuzz-free procedure may cause them to hesitate. Dear Dr. Manny, I have my honeymoon coming up and I’ve been thinking about getting laser hair removal for my bikini line, but I’m a little worried about the radiation that’s involved with it. Is there any kind of link between laser hair removal and cancer? Thanks, Annie In terms of cancer risk, X-rays and gamma rays are the most dangerous and are known as high-frequency ionizing radiation. Although both types can come from natural sources like rad...

Lacuna Coil Vocalist Says Gaining Recognition In Home Country Of Italy Has ‘Always Been A Bit Of A Struggle’

LACUNA COIL vocalist Andrea Ferro recently spoke with the “Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz” podcast. The full conversation can be streamed below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). Andrea: “We had this piece of music that Marco [Coti Zelati, bass] came up [with], and we thought it could have been a good intro for the live show, actually, because normally, we always have an instrumental intro that we access the stage [during] for the live performances. But then Cristina [Scabbia, vocals] had an idea — she really liked the melody, so she came up with the melody for the vocals. It sounded so good, it’s almost like a short, mini-song, so we decided to use it as an intro, to do something a little different than what we’ve always done. We’ve never had a proper intro like that, so we decided to try and wrote some lyrics for it, and it fit very well the mood, I think, for the introduction of the record. It is quite a heavy record overall, so it was cool to have something soft to start with, and dark, to create the atmosphere, to set the mood, and then blasting some more heavy songs right after. We thought it was a good idea,...

Bike repair stations set up on city trails | CHAT News Today| Medicine Hat, Southern Alberta

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat has made it easier for cyclists to repair their bicycles while out on the trails. Several bike repair stations have been installed by the Parks and Recreation Department around the city, with four being installed in recent weeks. “One of our main objectives is to keep people active, and for people to get out and enjoy the outdoors, and we thought a bike repair station we thought was a good amenity to include,” said Randy Taves, manger of parks projects with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. Stations are located at Strathcona Island Park, Police Point Park, Saamis Heights, Ross Glen Trail and the Burnside Trail. The stations include an air pump, screwdrivers and wrenches to help with problems that arise during trail rides, such as flat tires and broken or loose chains. “This gives them an opportunity if they want to stop and have a rest, maybe pump up their tires a little bit, they found they were a little bit flat, or they want to tighten a few bolts or screws,” said Taves. “It’s a tremendous step forward into recognizing the cycling community within our city,” he said. “I think the people and families that enjoy the path ar...

Kabini’s famous Torn Ears walks head on on the safari track followed by a van full of excited wildlife buffs.   | Photo Credit: Arvind Ramamurthy/@arvindrthy In the late 19th century, the British upper class discovered the wild. They travelled to Africa by the boatload, armed to the teeth with mosquito netting and portable china… They were the early samplers of the safari. In India, where we only have to venture into our backyards for similar experiences, the turn of the millennium brought into view the commercial potential, drawing domestic tourists to national parks and sanctuaries. Lately, however, in a multi-pronged bid to stem that tide, protect forest ecosystems from over-gazing, and yet keep revenue-streams high, several parks, reserves and sanctuaries have started to crank up the costs. This has resulted in the loss of the common Indian tourist. For example, at Kabini River Lodge tour packages vary from ₹10,266 for a tent, to ₹15,700 for a cottage, per person per night on twin-sharing basis. Bandipur starts at ₹8,673. Corbett National Park, has stay-and-safari packages starting at ₹4,800 per person, per night. At Uttar Pradesh’s Dudhwa Forest Rest House, rates start at ₹...

Clickety clack, let’s look back: Typewriters return

For most of us, the clickety clack of a manual typewriter — or the gentler tapping of the IBM Selectric — are but memories, or something seen only in movies. But at the few remaining typewriter repair shops in the country, business is booming as a younger generation discovers the joy of the feel and sound of the typewriter — and older generations admit they never fell out of love with it. “What’s surprising to me is that the younger generation is taking a liking to typewriters again,” says Paul Schweitzer, 80, owner and operator of the Gramercy Typewriter Co., founded by his father in 1932. He now works alongside his son, Jay Schweitzer, 50, and — this summer — a grandson, Jake. Vintage typewriters are sent for repair and restoration daily from around the country, Schweitzer says. Demand is so great that early this year, the family finally opened their own store, in New York City. Other surviving shops include Berkeley Typewriter and California Typewriter, both in Berkeley, California, and also founded in the 1930s. Two recent documentaries, “The Typewriter (In The 21st Century)” (2012) and “California Typewriter” (2016), featuring collector Tom Hanks, have helped popularize vi...

In 2018, the revenue of global integrated circuit industry totaled about USD 480 billion, representing a CAGR of less than 10% from 2014 to 2018; the revenue of China’s integrated circuit industry was about USD 98.70 billion, representing a CAGR of about 25% from 2014 to 2018. In China, the revenue from integrated circuit designing was about USD 38.07 billion, accounting for 38.60% of the revenue of the integrated circuit industry; the revenue from integrated circuit manufacturing was about USD 27.48 billion, accounting for about 27.80%; the revenue from integrated circuit packaging and testing was about USD 33.15 billion, accounting for 33.60%. According to CRI, since China joined the WTO, its integrated circuit industry has been developing. However, because of outdated technologies and insufficient talents, China’s integrated circuit manufacturing lags behind the international advanced level for one to two generations; integrated circuit designing contains low technological content and is monotonous; integrated circuit packaging and testing have a gap with the international mainstream level. Therefore, China relies heavily on the imports of high-end integrated circuits. In 201...
